SCOTT FROST – HUSKER SATURDAY PRACTICE COMMENTS:

FROST – ONLY MAJOR INJURY IN FALL CAMP COMES TO CRAWFORD:

Head coach for the Huskers Scott Frost addressed the media Saturday morning and gave an injury update from the previous week, saying the team is mostly healthy with one exception…

DeColdest Crawford was one of the prize pickups from the 2022 recruitment cycle for the Huskers. Nebraska still has plenty of talent at receiver with returning experience in Omar Manning, Alante Brown, Oliver Martin and others, along with new talent from the transfer portal such as Trey Palmer and Marcus Washington.

FROST – HUSKERS ARE READY FOR WEEK ZERO:

Head Coach of the Huskers Scott Frost spoke to the media after Saturday’s practice and was asked what he’s happiest to see in the third week of fall camp…

Frost also mentioned that his quarterbacks are continuing to battle for the starting role prior to the trip to Ireland to face Northwestern.

FROST – OFFENSIVE LINE WORK IS EXTRAORDINARY:

Nebraska’s Scott Frost spoke to the media following Saturday’s practice and said his offensive line is working harder than ever…

The Huskers are aiming to replace several starters from last season and would like to cement their lineup prior to heading to Ireland according to Frost.

FROST – OFFENSIVE LINE OUTPUT BETTER THAN ANY PRIOR SEASON:

The Nebraska Football team uses all the technology possible to read the best data to produce the best results for Saturday’s in the fall. Some of that technology is showing off the effort put in by the Huskers Pipeline according to coach Scott Frost…

The Huskers have yet to cement a starting five for their offensive line but will likely name their starters prior to leaving to Ireland next week.

FROST – ERVIN IS GETTING BETTER; RUNNING BACK ROOM IS TALENTED:

Head coach for the Nebraska Football team Scott Frost spoke highly of returning running back Gabe Ervin during Saturday’s practice, after Ervin suffered a torn ACL last season ending his 2021 season early…

Ervin continues to compete with transfer Anthony Grant and returning starter Rahmir Johnson for the number one spot, but each back will likely get regular rotations for the Big Red offense this season.

FROST – TRANSFERS ARE LEARNING QUICKLY:

Head Coach Scott Frost’s Huskers have transformed over the off-season utilizing the transfer portal to its full potential. Frost spoke on how his team’s transfers are more prepared and come with a better edge than before…

The Huskers have transfers at nearly every level of their team for the upcoming season, as the Big Red head overseas next week to begin preparations for Northwestern on August 27.

FORMER HUSKERS IMPRESSING IN NFL PRESEASON:

Former Nebraska center Cam Jurgens made his preseason debut Friday night, and according to the early reports, he made one heck of a first impression.

The former Husker saw his first action in the NFL as the Philadelphia Eagles took on the New York Jets on Friday night. Jurgens had a Nebraska career that culminated in being named Third-Team All-Big Ten (2021, Coaches) as well as a member of the Rimington Trophy Watch List (2021). Following his career in Lincoln, he was taken in the second round of the NFL Draft, number 51 overall.

Jurgens made his debut with the 1st team offensive line due to the injury of 4x First-team All-Pro Jason Kelce.

Meanwhile, former Cornhuskers defensive tackle Khalil Davis made a highlight play during an NFL preseason game. Davis was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Now, Davis is with the Pittsburgh Steelers. With three seconds to go, Pittsburgh’s opponent Seattle were trailing the Steelers by seven points. They attempted to execute a trick play, but Davis took down tight end Tyler Mabry with a huge hit-stick tackle.

Finally, Austin Allen – former Huskers tight end – did record a reception and saw significant action during this weekend’s preseason contest for the New York Giants.

HARVICK WINS AGAIN AT RICHMOND:

Kevin Harvick may be stamping himself as the man to beat in NASCAR.

The 2014 series champion took the lead from Joey Logano with 66 laps to go and held off Christopher Bell at Richmond Raceway on Sunday for his second consecutive NASCAR Cup Series victory.

Harvick, who ended a 65-race drought last week at Michigan, won for the 60th time, the fourth time at Richmond and first time on the 0.75-mile oval since 2013. He matched Kyle Busch for ninth in career victories in the premier series and credited an increased understanding of the Next Gen car for his progress.

LOPER FOOTBALL NAMES TEAM CAPTAINS:

UNK Football Head Coach Josh Lynn announced his team captains after Saturday’s practice and scrimmage at Foster Field. Captains were voted upon by the team.

Offensive captains include All-American quarterback and Harlon Hill trophy finalist TJ Davis and offensive tackle Kooper Reece. Defensive captains were named as All-American safety Darius Swanson, Jaylen Perkins, and linebacker Jacey Nutter. Special teams captain Hunter Kraus, the Loper punter, was also included.

ZALATORIS GETS 1st PGA TOUR WIN IN MEMPHIS:

It took three playoff holes to get the answer Sunday for the winner in Memphis at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, and it was more along the lines of what they won’t say.

Will Zalatoris is no longer the best on the PGA Tour without a victory.

Already a force in the majors, Zalatoris got that first win out of the way with clutch putts and smart decisions to beat Sepp Straka and capture the first FedEx Cup playoffs event.
