HUSKER PRACTICE COMMENTS – COORDINATORS:

WHIPPLE – THOMPSON GETS BETTER EACH WEEK:

Offensive Coordinator for the Huskers Mark Whipple spoke to the media after Tuesday’s practice and was asked what his thoughts on Casey Thompson’s performance was against North Dakota… 

Whipple added he was happy to see more growth from the quarterback in the run game as well. Nebraska faces Georgia Southern on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. 

 

WHIPPLE – OFFENSE GOT ROLLING WITH MORE PLAYS IN 2nd HALF:

Nebraska Offensive Coordinator Mark Whipple was asked about his offense’s efficiency in the first half compared to the second half when facing North Dakota in Week 2… 

Nebraska was tied at halftime at 7 with the Fighting Hawks before pulling away in the fourth quarter to win 38-17. 

 

WHIPPLE – OFF BALANCE SET FORCES DEFENSE TO PLAN MORE:

Mark Whipple brought his more pro-style offense to the Huskers from Pittsburgh over the off-season and has added interesting wrinkles to the first two Big Red contests. One consistent has been numerous off-balance formations, in which Whipple spoke more about after Tuesday’s practice… 

Nebraska uses the formation to rip off bigger runs and Whipple says that he hopes to use the package in play-action roles later on in the season. 

 

CHINANDER – STILL MISTAKES TO CLEAN UP FOR BLACKSHIRTS:

Defensive Coordinator for the Huskers Erik Chinander spoke about the mistakes from the North Dakota contest for the Nebraska defense and how the Blackshirts look to correct those issues in this week’s practice… 

Nebraska faces Georgia Southern on Saturday under the lights at Memorial Stadium.

 

CHINANDER – YOUNG LINEBACKER MADE MISTAKES, PLAYED WELL:

Nebraska defensive coordinator Erik Chinander was asked his thoughts on true freshman and Columbus native Ernest Hausmann’s performance against North Dakota in his first career start as a Husker… 

Hausmann was a Discoverer during this time last year but performed well, reading fits and ending with six total tackles. 

 

RECORD CROWD EXPECTED FOR NEBRASKA/CREIGHTON:

The No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team is set to hit the road for the first time this season, though it won’t be going far. The Huskers will face in-state rival No. 17 Creighton on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the CHI Health Center in Omaha. 

More than 14,000 tickets have been sold for the match. The NCAA record for a regular-season (volleyball only) match is 14,022, set by Nebraska and Creighton at the CHI Health Center on Sept. 6, 2018.

The Huskers have swept all five of their opponents. The last time NU began the season with five sweeps in a row was in 2006 when it opened the season with six consecutive sweeps. 

Creighton is off to a 5-1 start to the season and has faced a pair of ranked opponents. 

 

BEARCAT FOOTBALL AWARDED TEAM ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARD:

The Nebraska Coaches Association, the National Football Foundation, and Sideline Power are presenting the first-ever Team Academic Excellence Awards.  The KHS football team will be recognized as a recipient of this award. KHS is one of only ten schools across all of Nebraska (in all classifications) to be recognized with this honor.  

The Kearney High School football team received a cumulative GPA of 3.690 which is Nebraska’s Highest Team GPA submitted per classification.

 

UNK HALL OF FAME CLASS ANNOUNCED:

Five former student-athletes and a former head coach will be inducted into the Nebraska-Kearney Athletic Hall of Fame during ceremonies on Homecoming weekend this Oct. 28-29.

The 2022 Hall of Fame members are football player/track & field athlete Bill Backes (’67), track & field athlete Shauna (Birchard) Graham (’06), men’s basketball player Duty Jura (’08; ’15), football player Troy Stonacek (’86), diver Dusty (Walston) Hatt (’02) and head football coach Darrell Morris.

On Saturday, Oct. 29, the class will be recognized at half time of the football game vs. Northwest Missouri State. That contest kicks off at 2 p.m.

NEBRASKA VOLLEYBALL – JOHN COOK COMMENTS:

COOK – CREIGHTON/NEBRASKA IS GREAT FOR STATE:

Nebraska Volleyball matches up with in-state rival Creigton on Wednesday and Head Coach John Cook emphasized how much this contest means for the state of volleyball in the state of Nebraska… 

The Huskers entered the year preseason No. 1 and have dropped a spot to No. 2 as of Week 3 of the college volleyball season. Creighton is No. 17 with a 5-1 record coming into Wednesday’s matchup.

 

COOK – CREIGHTON COMES WITH STRONG HITTERS:

Head Coach for Nebraska Volleyball John Cook spoke after Monday’s practice about what the BlueJays bring to the table for the Creighton/Nebraska matchup on Wednesday… 

Nebraska looks to bring down the No. 17 ranked Jays at the CHI Health Center, home of this year’s volleyball Final Four. 

 

BIG TEN BASKETBALL SCHEDULES TO BE ANNOUNCED WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY:

The Big Ten Network will unveil the 2022-23 Big Ten women’s basketball conference schedule on WEdnesday at 11 AM Central. Thursday, also at 11 AM Central, the 2022-23 men’s basketball conference schedule will be announced on B1G Today.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RELEASES NEW TOP 25:

Georgia moved up to No. 2 in the first Associated Press college football poll of the regular season, passing Ohio State, after the defending national champions dominated their opener.

Alabama remained No. 1 in the AP Top 25 receiving 44 of 63 first-place votes. The Bulldogs narrowed the gap on the Crimson Tide after beating Oregon 49-3 on Saturday. Georgia received 17 first-place votes.

Ohio State slipped to No. 3 and received two first-place votes. Michigan moved up four spots to No. 4.
