KEARNEY FOOTBALL FACES SEMESTER’S FIRST TEST AT BELLEVUE WEST:
For the fifth time since 2019, the Kearney Bearcats and Bellevue West Thunderbirds will face off on the football field as both Top Ten teams match up in Bellevue tonight.
Kearney enters the game 3-0 for the first time since 2017 and looks to pull off the upset over a preseason Top Three favorite. Kearney has downed Lincoln East and Lincoln North Star on the road while toppling Fremont at home in Week 2.
Bellevue West entered the season with another heavy load of expectations, and backed up the hype with wins over Creighton Prep in Week Zero, Omaha Burke, and Omaha North. Last week, West fell to top team Westside and aims to improve their 3-1 mark tonight.
The KGFW High School Football Preview Show begins at 5 PM with live pregame from Bellevue West at 5:30 PM. Austin Jacobsen and Ford Clark will be on the call. Tune into the contest on 1340 KGFW, 96.1 FM, on the free KGFW Mobile app, and online at KGFW.com.
JOSEPH – HAVE TO GET BETTER:
The Nebraska Football team – and their social media accounts – have been relatively tight-lipped since the firing of Head Coach Scott Frost on Sunday morning. Interim coach Mickey Joseph stated he would only have one media appearance this week coming earlier on Tuesday.
The Nebraska Twitter page however, posted a clip of Joseph addressing the team post-practice…
Noticeable takeaways from the one minute video of Wednesday’s practice included: all players in red or white practice uniforms, meaning all Blackshirts have been removed from defensive players, tackling drills ongoing in the outdoor practice facility, and more outdoor work for the Huskers than inside of the Hawks Practice Center.
NEBRASKA FOOTBALL – MICKEY JOSEPH INTERIM CONFERENCE:
JOSEPH – NUMBER ONE FOCUS IS THE PLAYERS, THE TEAM:
Mickey Joseph is in while Scott Frost was booted out on Sunday. As the new interim head coach, Joseph addressed the media on Tuesday morning and laid out what his main focus is currently…
Joseph was the quarterback for the Huskers from 1989-91 and will face his first test as the temporary head coach against Oklahoma on Saturday in Memorial Stadium.
JOSEPH – DEFENSE NEEDS TO IMPROVE BY FIXING PROBLEMS:
Interim head coach Mickey Joseph addressed the media for the first time on Tuesday morning after the firing of Scott Frost on Sunday. Joseph was asked how he plans to fix the leaky Big Red defense after a tough three game stretch to start the season…
Joseph has also given Chinander more coaching of the Nebraska secondary, as he will now direct the safeties with defensive back coach Travis Fisher focusing on the corner and nickelbacks for the Blackshirts.
JOSEPH – ISSUES ACROSS ALL ASPECTS OF THE HUSKERS:
Mickey Joseph was named the interim head coach for the Huskers on Sunday after the firing of Scott Frost and held his first press conference on Tuesday morning. Joseph added in his comments that the losing record for Nebraska is not due to one side of the ball…
Nebraska’s defense has been put into the spotlight with lackluster performances in the first three contests despite an electric offense lighting up the scoreboard and stat sheet.
JOSEPH – KIDS, TEAM HURTING AFTER FROST FIRING:
Interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph addressed the media on Tuesday morning and said the team is still reeling from the firing of former coach Scott Frost…
As of now, no current Huskers have announced their departure from the team and have stuck together according to Joseph.
JOSEPH – UPDATE TO PRACTICE SCHEDULE:
Mickey Joseph has been placed as the new interim head coach for Nebraska Football after being hired last December to lead the wide receivers as well as holding associate head coaching roles. After the firing of Scott Frost on Sunday, Joseph detailed some early changes for the Huskers…
Joseph detailed other changes, such as the announcement of offensive analyst Mike Cassano as the new receivers coach – replacing Joseph.
JOSEPH – THIS OPPORTUNITY IS MY CHANCE TO BECOME NEW COACH:
Interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph was asked in his introductory press conference whether or not he would like to become the next head coach of Nebraska Football. Joseph answered the question with a workman mentality…
The Huskers are hoping to see a fast turnaround under Joseph as the Big Red face old rival Oklahoma on Saturday at 11 AM in Memorial Stadium.
PRESCOTT KEPT OFF IR FOR EARLIER RETURN FOR COWBOYS:
The Dallas Cowboys are not putting quarterback Dak Prescott on injured reserve after surgery on his right thumb, leaving open the possibility that he could return within the next four games.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday during his weekly appearance on the team’s flagship radio station that the team wants Prescott “to be a consideration for playing within the next four games.” That is the minimum number of games a player has to miss if placed on injured reserve.
Prescott had surgery Monday, a day after he got hurt in the fourth quarter of a season-opening 19-3 loss at home to Tampa Bay. He was following through after releasing a pass when his right hand bent awkwardly after making hard contact with the raised hands of rushing linebacker Shaq Barrett.
NBA CONSIDERED LONGER SUSPENSION FOR SUNS’ OWNER:
Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver was likely spared even stronger sanctioning by the NBA for his racist, misogynistic and hostile words and actions because of one key conclusion by investigators, Commissioner Adam Silver said Wednesday.
The law firm that spent nearly a year digging into the situation determined Sarver’s use of slurs “was not motivated by racial animus.”
Had that not been the case, Silver indicated, Sarver’s punishment — a one-year suspension and $10 million fine — would have been far more severe.
And that, to Silver, is one of the key distinctions between the Sarver case and the one surrounding then-Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling in 2014, when he was banned for life and fined $2.5 million for racist comments.
CHIEFS/CHARGERS BEGIN THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL WEEK 2:
After missing the playoffs last season, the Los Angeles Chargers can point to one game in December that would have changed everything: a matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
At the time, the Chiefs held a one-game lead over the Chargers in the AFC West. A win by Los Angeles would have given them control of the division through a season sweep of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid, and Co.
Now both teams battle for control of the division once again, this time on “Thursday Night Football” after starting the season 1-0.
The Chiefs came out swinging to start 2022, a 44-21 thumping of the Arizona Cardinals in which Mahomes threw three touchdown passes in his first three possessions.
Herbert and the Chargers faced a stiffer test, obtaining revenge on another late-season opponent, the Raiders, that snuffed out their postseason chances.
Kickoff is set for 7:15 PM on Amazon Prime Video.
