HUSKER FOOTBALL EDGES PAST RUTGERS:

It wasn’t pretty, but it’s a win for Nebraska.

The Huskers (3-3, 2-1 Big Ten) had to overcome a 13-0 deficit at halftime to take down Rutgers (3-3, 0-3 Big Ten) 14-13 Friday night in Piscataway, NJ. This was the first true road game of the season for NU.

The victory snapped a couple of streaks for Big Red. It broke the 10 game losing streak for one-score games. It broke the multi-season run of not winning back-to-back conference games, dating back to 2018.

A win over the Boilermakers would put NU at 3-1 in the Big Ten, which would be the best start to league play since the 2016 team started 4-0.

Nebraska and Purdue kickoff at 6:30 p.m. next Saturday.

KEARNEY FOOTBALL FALLS TO WESTSIDE DESPITE STADIUM CHANGE:

Kearney faced a tough customer in the No. 3 rated Westside Warriors, but including a stadium change in the beginning of the third quarter was not ideal for the Bearcats as they fall to 5-2 on the season after the 42-14 defeat.

Kearney has now suffered back-to-back losses after falling to Grand Island in Week 6.

The Bearcats return home to Foster Field for Homecoming and Senior Night action against Lincoln Northeast next Friday night. Coverage returns to KGFW as well.

HUSKER VOLLEYBALL PREPARES FOR TOP 25 MICHIGAN:

After taking down Michigan State on Thursday night in three sets, the No. 3 rated Husker Volleyball team looks to down Top 25 rated Michigan in Ann Arbor tonight.

At 12-3 (3-1 Big Ten), Michigan entered the AVCA Coaches Poll at No. 24 this week. The Wolverines have begun Big Ten play with wins at Rutgers (3-0), at No. 9 Penn State (3-0) and at Northwestern (3-1). Their only loss was at home to No. 6 Ohio State (1-3).

Michigan fell to Minnesota on Friday night.

Pregame coverage on KGFW begins at 5:30 PM with first serve at 6 PM.

LOPER FOOTBALL HEADS TO ST. JOE ON WINNING STREAK:

The now 24th/14th-ranked Nebraska Kearney football team heads back out on the road this Saturday to take on the Missouri Western State Griffons.

It’s “Homecoming” in St. Joseph with an unusual kickoff time of 4 p.m. UNK (4-1) leads the all-time series 19-12 and has won three of the last four meetings including the past two over the Griffons (2-3).

Last fall in Kearney, the Lopers scored 28 second half points en route to a 35-14 victory. Quarterback TJ Davis (Colorado Springs) threw three touchdown passes with corner Gabriel Amegatcher (Romeoville, Ill.) recovering a fumbled punt in the end zone.

At the midpoint of the year, UNK is one of 10 Super Region 3 teams in the AFCA (American Football Coaches Assoc.) Top 29.

Missouri Western State has fallen in losses to Emporia State, Washburn, and last week to Northwestern Missouri State.

HASTINGS COLLEGE AIMS FOR SIXTH WIN TAKING ON No. 1 MORNINGSIDE:

The Hastings College Broncos continue to turn heads in the NAIA, sitting comfortably at 6-1 on the year after downing Briar Cliff last week at home.

Since suffering their only loss of the season in Week 2 at Midland 14-10, Hastings has rattled off five consecutive victories with an average margin of victory of nearly 17 points per win.

The going gets much tougher on Saturday, traveling to No. 1 rated Morningside in Sioux City, IA. Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM.
