HUSKER FOOTBALL PRACTICE COMMENTS – COORDINATORS:

WHIPPLE – STAFF HAS STAYED POSITIVE WITH CHANGES:

Nebraska Offensive Coordinator Mark Whipple spoke to the media after Wednesday’s practice and was asked if the coaching staff has remained upbeat despite the changes and tough games over the past month…

The Big Red Offense would like to carry that positivity into another week on the road at Purdue, where the Huskers are listed as double digit underdogs.

WHIPPLE – HALFTIME ATTITUDE LED TO RUTGERS COMEBACK:

Nebraska trailed Rutgers last week 13-0 heading into their halftime locker room. Offensive Coordinator Mark Whipple spoke after Wednesday’s practice that the offense’s attitude changed the outcome of that Friday night matchup…

Nebraska would like to make it three consecutive wins for the first time since 2016, where the Huskers rattled off seven straight wins to open their season under Mike Riley.

WHIPPLE – VOKALEK RETURN HUGE FOR BIG RED:

Mark Whipple, Nebraska Football Offensive Coordinator, was asked how big an impact the return of tight end Travis Vokalek could make for this offense…

Vokalek had a big performance in Week Zero against Northwestern but has been limited in action since that international contest. Vokalek had 6 receptions for 46 yards and a score at Rutgers.

BUSCH – PRACTICE THEMES AND COMPETITION LEVELS:

Nebraska interim defensive coordinator Bill Busch addressed the media after Wednesday’s practice and said his defense continues to practice and play hard throughout the grind of the season…

Nebraska’s defense has shown heart the past two contest, not giving up a single point in the second half of back-to-back games.

BUSCH – PURDUE TALENTED IN PLAY CALLING AND PLAYERS:

Nebraska interim Defensive Coordinator Bill Busch spoke to the media after Wednesday’s practice and previewed what the Purdue offense has in store, including how to predict the talented Jeff Brohm offense…

Nebraska will have their work cut out for them on Saturday in West Lafayette, as the Blackshirts are allowing 29 points per contest while the Boilermakers average 33 points scored per game.

BUSCH – MORE FUN IN PRACTICE AFTER A WIN:

The Blackshirts’ interim coordinator Bill Busch spoke to the media after Wednesday’s practice and said momentum has been on the side of the Huskers not only in games, but also in practice…

Busch and the Blackshirts will face a talented Purdue offense on the road on Saturday with another night kickoff set for 6:30 PM.

HUSKERS RECEIVE WALK-ON GRETNA ADDITION:

Gretna senior outside linebacker/edge Korver Demma announced his preferred walk-on commitment to Nebraska on Wednesday night, less than a week after a stellar performance in the Dragons’ win over Papio South.

Against the Titans, Demma returned an interception that he tipped to himself for a touchdown, recovered a fumble, and recorded two sacks and six total tackles.

Demma joins 13 other hard commits in Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class that ranks 51st nationally.

Korver’s mom, Megan, was an All-American middle blocker for the Nebraska volleyball team in the ’90s, and his grandfather played for Nebraska football.

RAIDERS’ ADAMS CHARGED WITH MISDEMEANOR AFTER MNF INCIDENT:

Las Vegas Raiders receiver Davante Adams has been charged with misdemeanor assault for shoving a photographer to the ground as he left the field following a loss at Kansas City.

Kansas City, Missouri, police said Adams pushed Ryan Zebley to the ground while running off the field following the Raiders’ 30-29 loss to the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night. Police called it an “intentional, overt act” that caused whiplash, a headache and a possible minor concussion.

Charges were filed Wednesday morning in Municipal Court of Kansas City. Adams apologized in his postgame comments to the media and later on Twitter.

BENNING ADDED AS HUSKER FOOTBALL COLOR ANALYST:

Just four days after Matt Davison was on his final broadcast for the Husker Radio Network, Damon Benning was announced as his successor. Davison left to lead a new Name, Image, Likeness collective.

The announcement for Benning was made on Sports Nightly Tuesday.

Benning is a near-perfect blend of Huskers and media experience. The Omaha native was a four year letter winning running back in the 1990s. He played a part on two National Championship teams and was named MVP of the 1996 Orange Bowl

In the media world, Benning has been an analyst on the Big Ten Network, Nebraska Public Media (formerly NET), and KETV. In the radio and audio world, Benning spent several years on 1620 The Zone in Omaha and most recently joined the Hurrdat Media team.

Benning’s first game with HRN will be at Purdue this Saturday.
