Nebraska, along with other state attorneys general has obtained two settlements with Experian concerning data breaches it had in 2012 and 2015. The coalition of attorneys has also obtained a separate settlement with T-Mobile in connection to one of the Experian breaches.

In 2015, Experian, one of the big three credit reporting bureaus reported it had experienced a data breach, in which an unauthorized individual gained access to part of Experian’s network which stored personal information for T-Mobile.

Information including driver’s license numbers, social security numbers, and other compromising information was stolen, with nearly 5,000 Nebraskans being impacted.

Nearly 13 million dollars was awarded in the settlement.
