MINDEN, NE—For more than 100 years Minden has been known as Nebraska’s Christmas City for good reason. The spectacular Christmas Lights on the Kearney County Courthouse can be seen for miles and “The Light of the World” Christmas Pageant is a source of pride and is performed by local residents on the sides of the courthouse square every year. Every performance is free of charge and culminates in the illumination of over 12,000 bulbs that adorn the courthouse and the square itself.
This year, the Christmas Traditions Committee is thrilled to continue with the century old tradition. Beginning November 25th to January 1st, the lights will be on display on The Square. The event will kick off at 1 p.m. with a live nativity, a visit with Santa and his reindeer and a kid’s carnival at the Windmill. At 5:30 pm, the Lighted Christmas Parade begins followed by the crowning of the new Miss Christmas City.
As the new Executive Director of the Minden Chamber, I appreciate the strong community members who are volunteering their time to make Christmas of 2022 a great success where families can enjoy the holidays and make memories. We are excited to bring families from the surrounding communities something new this year with a city wide Christmas lights display contest.
The Minden Chamber of Commerce is partnering with 4th Street Salon, Bloomin’ Wild Photography, Cozy Corner Catering & Christmas Store, the Windmill, Rhynalds Auction & Realty, the City of Minden, the Minden Opera House, and Joy’s Floral to bring the community a Christmas Lights display contest. From November 17th to December 15th, citizens of Minden are invited to participate via decorating the exterior of their homes and yards. Each week, one home will be awarded a prize for having the best Christmas spirit.
Many other events will be happening through the Christmas season including Ladies Night Out on November 17th and the Christmas City 5K Run & Little Elf Run on December 4th, and the Minden Tour of Homes on December 11th.
Attached is a list of events for reference. We look forward to inviting the tri-city area community members to join us to celebrate our Christmas City.
