Grand Island police, fire and rescue, and GI Public schools handed out more than 100 coats to local students in need as part of the nationwide effort called “Operation Warm”.
The operation, which has given over 4 million coats since it began has been hosted at Grand Island Public Schools for over 10 years. Wednesday, 16 students in need picked up brand new coats at Howard Elementary School with dozens of local firefighters and police officers there to help the kids try them on.
Amy Hanna, social worker for Howard Elementary said having law enforcement and firefighters there help kids know that they’re good people and safe to be around.
