KEARNEY – It was all Bearcats from the beginning, as Kearney rolled to their fifteenth win on the season in a 59-27 victory at home over Columbus Saturday evening. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.

The Bearcats were riding high off a huge comeback win over Lincoln Southeast the night before and hoping to continue their winning ways over Columbus at home. The start proved Kearney’s focus on the evening, as from the opening tip the Bearcats demanded control of the contest.

Kearney opened up on a 7-3 advantage in the first two and a half minutes, then erupted for a 19-2 run before ending the first quarter. The Bearcats flourished in scoring in multiple ways, hitting big threes from Ben Johnson, Karter Lee, Jack Dahlgren, and Colt Straka from various spots downtown. Meanwhile, Asher Endorf sliced inside for six points and the Bearcats defense clamped down to prevent any scoring runs early. Up 26-5 at the end of the first quarter, Kearney continued to dominate.

A second quarter highlighted by a lob pass from Lee to Johnson on a slam dunk down the baseline was also punctuated with two triples by Johnson and a three hit by Endorf. The defense continued to step up, stopping Columbus to only six points in the quarter. Kearney controlled the lead up 43-11 at halftime.

Starters only played a few minutes in the second half, as Kearney’s reserves added some lighter scoring to close the game in a win for Kearney 59-27.

The Bearcats move to 15-6 on the year before taking on Fremont at home on Tuesday night then traveling to Lincoln Southwest to end the regular season.

Kearney had contributions from Johnson with 18 points, Endorf had 11, Dahlgren and Straka each had 7, Turner Bertrand wrapped with 6, Lee ended with 5, Jhordy Solares had 3, and Treyven Beckman concluded with 2.
