LINCOLN – An early lead set up by Lincoln Southeast began a tough outing at Sherman Field for the Kearney Bearcat Baseball team, falling in five innings 13-3 on Wednesday evening. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.
Kearney (0-3) dropped their third straight game in as many days, scoring three runs on three hits with three errors. Lincoln Southeast (1-1) earned their first win on the season by scoring thirteen runs on seven hits with no errors.
The Bearcats were coming off of back-to-back losses from Monday and Tuesday, while the Knights had dropped their season opener to Lincoln East on Tuesday 8-3. The contest between Kearney and Lincoln Southeast had been postponed from the previous Friday to avoid bitterly cold temperatures in Lincoln.

Southeast went up early scoring four runs in the bottom of the first, but Kearney fired back with Beau Skala bringing in a run and sophomore K0le Throckmorton banging a 2 RBI double to end the second down 4-3.
From there, Southeast controlled for the victory as Knight pitcher – and future Husker – Max Buttenback earned the win on the mound, striking out four.
Kearney is back in action on Friday at the Lincoln Pius Invite taking on Pius in their opening matchup on Friday at Lincoln’s Densmore Field. The invite runs through Saturday.
The Bearcats next contest aired on KGFW comes Monday as the Bearcats host Columbus. KGFW’s pregame begins at 2:45 PM with first pitch at 3 PM.
