HUSKER BASEBALL TAKES SERIES OVER ILLINOIS; DROPS ANOTHER SUNDAY:

Max Anderson and Gabe Swansen slugged two homers in Nebraska’s 10-7 setback vs. Illinois in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.

Nebraska (13-8-1, 2-1 Big Ten) tallied seven runs on 12 hits and an error, while the Fighting Illini (11-9, 1-2) recorded 10 runs on 14 hits and one error.

The Huskers did claim wins over Illinois on Friday and Saturday at Haymarket Park.

With the series win, the Huskers have won a weekend series against four consecutive opponents, with series wins against Illinois, Nicholls, Illinois State and South Alabama.

Nebraska returns to action Tuesday, as the Huskers welcome North Dakota State to Hawks Field.

KEARNEY BASEBALL POSTPONES COLUMBUS MATCHUP:

Due to the snow dumped on the Kearney area on Saturday night and poor field conditions at Memorial Field, the Bearcat Baseball matchup with Columbus set for this afternoon has been postponed to a later date.

Monday’s game is the third Kearney Baseball contest to be postponed since the start of the season.

Kearney returns to action on Wednesday hosting Grand Island. Tonight, KGFW will host the High School Coaches Show at 5 PM with Sports Nightly to follow.

Sophomore Savanah Egger threw a complete game two-hitter and freshman Carly Stuke drove in four runs in the nightcap to help Fort Hays State take a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 2-0 and 10-2 (6 innings), Saturday afternoon in Kansas.

The Tigers (21-10, 4-2) have now won eight straight games and pushed their record against the Lopers (12-18, 3-3) to 42-38 since March 1999.

UNK returns home this weekend to face Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern.

LOPER T&F WINS FIVE EVENTS AT FIRST OUTDOOR COMPETITION:

The Nebraska-Kearney track and field team won five events and had several big efforts at the annual Emporia State Relays this weekend in Kansas.

The large meet began Thursday afternoon with the first half of the multi-events and ran until Saturday evening. A rare scored regular season meet, the Loper men tallied 62.5 points with the women garnering 33.5. This was UNK’s first outdoor competition of the spring.

UNK and Hastings College co-host the annual Central Nebraska Challenge Saturday at Kearney High School.
