The Kearney Bearcats soccer teams return to UNK’s Foster Field, inviting Omaha Buena Vista for the first matchup of their respective programs’ history.

The doubleheader begins at 1 PM at UNK between the Bearcat and Bison girls, followed by the boys starting at 3 PM.

KGFW’s pregame coverage starts at 12:45 PM and 2:45 PM respectively. Tune in to the action with Austin Jacobsen, Tristan Crook, and Alex Hammeke on the call on 1340 KGFW, 96.1 FM, on the free KGFW mobile app, and online at KGFW.com.

HUSKER BASEBALL HEADS TO TEXAS FOR DOUBLEHEADER:

Nebraska heads south for a non-conference doubleheader against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon in Abilene, Texas.

First pitch between the Huskers and Texas A&M-CC is scheduled for 1 p.m., while Nebraska’s second game against Abilene Christian will start approximately 45 minutes after game one.

Nebraska and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi have met six times on the baseball diamond, with the Huskers holding a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series. The lone all-time meeting between the Huskers and Wildcats was back in 1974.

KGFW’s broadcast of Husker Baseball will join in progress at the conclusion of the Kearney Boys soccer matchup with Omaha Buena Vista.

TRAUDT PICKS CREIGHTON:

Former Grand Island Senior High basketball star Isaac Traudt – a four star recruit and ESPN Top 100 recruit in 2022 – is returning to Nebraska to play under Head Coach Greg McDermott and the Creighton Bluejays.

Traudt announced earlier this week that he was leaving the Cavaliers’ program, stating that he wanted to continue his college basketball career closer to home. The announcement was made official Friday morning via his personal Twitter.

Traudt is a 6-foot-10, 230 lb. forward who redshirted in his lone season at Virginia. He was a four-year letterwinner with the Islanders, averaging 23 points and eight rebounds in his final season in Grand Island. He scored over 25 points and hauled in over nine rebounds per game as junior.

STORM CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH WITH SERIES OPENING WIN:

The Tri-City Storm clinched a spot in the 2023 Clark Cup Playoffs in Friday’s 6-3 win over the Sioux Falls Stampede at the Viaero Center.

Jake Richard, Charlie Kinsman, Cameron O’Neill, Kieran Cebrian, Trevor Connelly, and Graham Gamache each netted a goal for the Storm in the victory.

Puck drop for the battle between the Storm and the Stampede is scheduled  for 7:05pm CT tonight.

NEBRASKA SOFTBALL DROPS HOME MATCHUP TO WOLVERINES:

Michigan handed the Nebraska softball team a rare Big Ten home loss Friday afternoon, as the Wolverines were thoroughly impressive in a 10-1 five-inning victory over the Huskers at Bowlin Stadium. The loss was only Nebraska’s second defeat in its last 19 Big Ten Conference home games.

The Wolverines (16-13, 2-2 Big Ten) scored a pair of runs in each of the first two innings before exploding for a six-run third inning. Michigan set season highs in runs (10) and hits (14), while the Wolverines were 10-for-19 in the game with runners on base.

Nebraska and Michigan continue their series on Saturday at 4 p.m.

HUSKER VOLLEYBALL ANNOUNCES SUMMER TRIP TO BRAZIL:

The Nebraska volleyball team will embark on a 17-day trip to Brazil from May 29-June 14. The Huskers will train and play matches in both Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte.

NCAA programs are allowed to take foreign trips once every four years, and this will be Nebraska’s first-ever trip to Brazil under Head Coach John Cook. The last foreign trip for the Nebraska volleyball program was a 17-day trip to Japan and China in the summer of 2019. The Huskers also went to Asia in 2000, 2006, 2010 and 2014.

Nebraska has six new players on its roster and no seniors, so the trip will allow NU’s young squad a chance to gel before preseason training begins in August. The Huskers also had six newcomers and no seniors on their 2019 trip to Asia.

LOPER/BRONCO T&F SET TO HOST NEBRASKA CHALLENGE SATURDAY:
