Kearney Public School Board approved a transgender athlete policy during Monday’s meeting.
During Monday’s monthly board meeting, the board did a second reading and final approval of Policy 6420 Version A.
The policy is as stated “Participation in athletics at the 6-12 grade levels will be restricted to a student’s biological sex, at birth as stated on the student’s original birth certificate.”
The policy was one of two considered during March’s monthly meeting regarding the participation of transgender athletes in school athletics.
Version A was on the consent agenda and was approved in addition to several other items.
During the meetings public comment, several speakers thanked the board for the policy approval. However, some speakers spoke to the board to reconsider.
