BIG RED BASEBALL FALLS TO MARYLAND IN LATE WALK OFF:

Nebraska suffered a 2-1 defeat in 10 innings to top-seeded and 23rd-ranked Maryland in a weather-delayed contest in front of 8,340 fans at Charles Schwab Field on Thursday night in Omaha.

Nebraska (32-22-1) scored one run on four hits, while Maryland (39-19) scored two runs on eight hits and two errors.

The two teams exchanged scoreless half innings, as the Huskers and Terrapins went into the bottom of the 10th locked in a tie. Schanaman retired the two batters he faced before Nick Lorusso’s walk-off solo homer to left on a 2-2 count clinched the victory for the top-seeded Terrapins.

Nebraska takes on eighth-seeded Michigan State in an elimination game at 7 p.m. tonight at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. KGFW’s pregame is set for 6 PM.

LOPER T&F WRAPS DAY ONE OF NCAA OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS:

Redshirt junior Ben Arens qualified for the steeplechase finals to lead Nebraska Kearney at the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships Thursday in Pueblo, Colo.

The three-day meet began Thursday at the ThunderBowl with Colorado State-Pueblo serving as host.

Arens (Ainsworth) ran in the second of two heats and made a move at the 1,400-meter mark, going from seventh to first in a span of 400 meters.

Next, McCool Junction senior Luke Stuckey (1,500/3:53.22) and Kearney redshirt freshman Lily Novacek (hammer/183-3) both came in 13th place, just missing AA status.

Giltner redshirt junior Alex Goracke suffered the same fate in the men’s hammer as he uncorked a 193-2 on his third and final throw. That was good for 17th place.

Finally, in his first national appearance, Creighton junior Alex Homan didn’t get over the initial bar (15-7) in the pole vault.

Action resumes Friday morning at 11:30 a.m. Central with the meet wrapping up around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night.

RAIDERS, CHIEFS, DAVANTE ADAMS FACE LAWSUIT FROM STADIUM WORKER:

Las Vegas Raiders star Davante Adams, his team and the Kansas City Chiefs are among the five defendants facing a civil lawsuit stemming from the wide receiver pushing a video production crew member to the ground as Adams was leaving the field following an Oct. 10 game.

Park Zebley filed the complaint in Jackson County Circuit Court.

While Adams was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault in Kansas City municipal court and is scheduled to appear in court on June 26, Zebley—who alleged he feared for his life and suffered concussion symptoms—said that wasn’t enough.

The suit named the Chiefs as well as Jackson County Sports Complex Authority and Landmark Events Staffing and alleged negligence on their part contributed to the shove happening. It also said Zebley received online death threats from fans when his identity was discovered.
