SOLICH, ZIKMUND ADDED TO 2024 HALL OF FAME BALLOT:

The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today the names on the 2024 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, including 78 players and nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 101 players and 32 coaches from the divisional ranks.

The announcement of the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be made in early 2024, with specific details to be announced in the future.

Former Nebraska Cornhusker coach Frank Solich is listed on the ballot. The two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year and 1999 Big 12 Championship winner retired after becoming the winningest coach in MAC history with Ohio, boasting 12 consecutive non-losing seasons.

Additionally, Allen Zikmund of UNK fam led the Lopers to eleven conference titles with nine players named to the NAIA All-American team and 67 All-Conference. Zikmund is also a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame.

SOUTH DOWNS NORTH IN 65th SHRINE BOWL SATURDAY:

The 65th annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl was in doubt. Rain and lightning continued to pour onto Ron and Carol Cope Stadium shortly after kickoff.

But after two hours of waiting, the South team took control to pick up a 17-7 victory over the north team.

Kearney High’s Treyven Beckman started the contest for the South team at quarterback. Beckman ended 6-16 for 104 yards and an interception including a 48 yard toss to Adonis Hutchinson. The Bearcats’ Jack Dahlgren recorded a tackle on defense. Grand Island Senior High’s Colton Marsh ended with five total tackles. 

The 66th annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, June 1, 2024.

 

HUSKER VOLLEYBALL WRAPS WEEKEND WITH SWEEP IN BRAZIL:

On day three of the tournament the Huskers swept Dentil Praia Clube U19, 25-9, 25-7, 25-7 to finish pool play with a 3-0 record, which earned them the tournament title.

Lindsay Krause had 10 kills for the Huskers along with three aces and two blocks. Caroline Jurevicius had seven kills.

The Huskers spent their last full day in Belo Horizonte on Sunday with a training session before heading to Rio today.

 

HEAT TIE SERIES IN DENVER:

The Heat tied the NBA Finals and had to overcome a monster 41-point effort from Nikola Jokic to do it. Gabe Vincent scored 23 points, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo each had 21 and Heat beat the Denver Nuggets 111-108 in Game 2 on Sunday night.

They were down by as many as 15 points, down eight going into the fourth, and those numbers signified they were going to lose. Denver was 11-0 in these playoffs when leading by double digits at any point in a game, and 37-1 this season overall when leading by at least eight going into the fourth.

The series heads to Miami for Game Three on Wednesday.
