OMAHA PRO VOLLEYBALL TEAM SIGNS FORMER HUSKER, BIG TEN STARS:

Nebraska Pro Volleyball is bringing a women’s professional to Omaha. The team announced signings of former Big Ten and Husker Volleyball stars on Monday.

The team secured Sydney Hilley, a 6’0” setter who led Wisconsin to a national championship and Gina Mancuso-Prososki, a 6’1” outside hitter who was an All American with the Nebraska Huskers.

Mancuso-Prososki, a native of Bellevue, Neb., is a renowned volleyball player and Nebraska Huskers alumna, Class of 2013, with 10 years of professional play and coaching experience.

During her 4-year career at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Mancuso-Prososki earned spots on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All American First & Second Teams, she twice earned All-Big Ten First Team spots and the Senior CLASS Award, among many others.

The Pro Volleyball Federation is expected to launch its first season in early 2024. Six of the markets have been announced: Omaha, Atlanta, San Diego, Orlando, Grand Rapids and Columbus.

SOLICH, ZIKMUND ADDED TO 2024 HALL OF FAME BALLOT:

The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today the names on the 2024 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, including 78 players and nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 101 players and 32 coaches from the divisional ranks.

The announcement of the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be made in early 2024, with specific details to be announced in the future.

Former Nebraska Cornhusker coach Frank Solich is listed on the ballot. The two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year and 1999 Big 12 Championship winner retired after becoming the winningest coach in MAC history with Ohio, boasting 12 consecutive non-losing seasons.

Additionally, Allen Zikmund of UNK fam led the Lopers to eleven conference titles with nine players named to the NAIA All-American team and 67 All-Conference. Zikmund is also a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame.

NEBRASKA FOOTBALL, THREE OTHER BIG TEN PROGRAMS OFFER CREIGHTON PREP TIGHT END:

By the end of Monday night, Creighton Prep tight end Michael Burt had stacked a Nebraska offer on top of ones also received earlier in the evening from Iowa and Minnesota. Not long after all that an Illinois assistant called to say the Illini wanted in the mix too.

He also received an offer from South Dakota to begin the day, with Miami of Ohio and South Dakota State among those who have offered in the last three days.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pound tight end has impressed with his physicality. In an offense that didn’t throw it at a high clip last year, there’s belief his athleticism could translate well to the receiving game better than any stats so far could tell. He was credited with 187 yards on 11 catches last season, according to MaxPreps.

BIG RED’S COLEMAN RECEIVES DONATION FROM KELLY CLARKSON:

Kelly Clarkson surprised a Nebraska football player with a $15,000 donation to his nonprofit.

Malachi Coleman, who appeared on Monday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson show, started Fly Like Chi to help kids, who like himself, are growing up in the foster system.

Clarkson announced the donation, courtesy of Dude Wipes, to help Coleman and Fly Like Chi.

After a standout career at Lincoln East, Coleman elected to stay in Lincoln and join the Husker Football program.

GOLDEN KNIGHTS TAKE TWO GAME SERIES LEAD OVER PANTHERS:

Jonathan Marchessault scored twice and started an early blitz that chased the NHL’s hottest postseason goalie, and Adin Hill continued his stellar play as the Vegas Golden Knights seized control of the Stanley Cup final with a 7-2 victory over the Florida Panthers to take a 2-0 series lead Monday night.

Hill made 29 saves and Marchessault had an assist to finish with three points. His 12 postseason goals set a Golden Knights record, with all coming after the first round.

Game three heads to Florida on Thursday.
