St Paul Police Department is advising citizens to stay alert of scammer calls impersonating as Howard County Sheriff’s Office.

According to St Paul Police several individuals have received a call from someone claiming to be from the Sheriff’s office. The impersonator went on to tell victims that they missed a court date and that a warrant was issued for their arrest. Then claiming victims must make a payment to avoid jail.

Police say the phone number used came from a St. Libory number, which was spoofed.

Residents are reminded that the Howard County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Paul Police Department, will never call and ask for a payment over the phone.

Those who do received a spam call claiming to be law enforcement requesting a payment should hang up and call a verified number to local law enforcement.
