The Buffalo County Historical Society’s Trails and Rails Museum will be holding back-to-back events this Saturday.

The first event, taking place from 10 am to 1 pm will be the 38th annual Wagons West Celebration. The event is free and open to the public, with many family fun activities, live music, food, pioneer demonstrators, kids’ games, and plenty of learning opportunities.

Later that evening the Trails and Rails will be hosting a program featuring the Transcontinental railroad coming through Nebraska.

The program, titled “The Midwest was nobody’s first choice for a transcontinental railroad”, Celebrates the 160th anniversary of the start of construction on the transcontinental railroad.

The program will feature dramatic, historical stories such as a town changing its name to attract a railroad, a town attempting to secede from Nebraska to join Kansas, and a stuck steamboat determining the route of the railroad.

The evening presentation begins at 7 pm and features Richard Warner from the Historical Society of Pottawattamie County from Council Bluffs Iowa.
