HUSKER VOLLEYBALL BRINGS LARSON BACK AS ASSISTANT COACH:
Nebraska volleyball and U.S. Women’s National Team legend Jordan Larson has been named a full-time assistant coach for the Nebraska volleyball program.
Larson will join Cook and assistant coaches Jaylen Reyes and Kelly Hunter on the Husker staff once her summer playing schedule wraps up in September. The NCAA Division I Council adopted a proposal in January that, among other changes, allows teams that utilize a volunteer coach to add a full-time coach position beginning this season.
One of the greatest American volleyball players in history, Larson was the team captain, Best Outside Hitter and Most Valuable Player when the U.S. won its first Olympic women’s volleyball gold medal in Tokyo in 2021.
A native of Hooper, Neb., Larson was a standout on some of the greatest teams in program history from 2005 to 2008 and was inducted into the Nebraska Athletic Hall of Fame in 2020. She helped Nebraska to a top-five NCAA Tournament finish in each of her four seasons. Her teams also claimed the 2006 National Championship and the runner-up finish in 2005.
NEBRASKA BASEBALL ADDS CHILDRESS, SIRIANNI TO COACHING STAFF:
Nebraska Baseball Head Coach Will Bolt announced the hiring of assistant coaches Rob Childress and Mike Sirianni to his coaching staff on Tuesday. Childress will serve as the pitching coach for the Huskers, and Sirianni will work with hitters and infielders. Both hires are pending the completion of the University of Nebraska hiring process.
Sirianni will join the Huskers as an assistant coach immediately. Childress, who has served as Nebraska’s director of player development since summer of 2021, will remain in his current role until July 1, when the NCAA permits schools to add a third full-time assistant coach.
More details on the hire at KGFW.com.
NUGGETS CLAIM FIRST NBA TITLE WITH GAME FIVE WIN:
The Denver Nuggets outlasted the Miami Heat 94-89 in an ugly, frantic Game 5 that did nothing to derail Nikola Jokic, who bailed out his teammates with 28 points and 16 rebounds on a night when nothing else seemed to work.
Jokic became the first player in history to lead the league in points (600), rebounds (269) and assists (190) in a single postseason. Not surprisingly, he won the Bill Russell trophy as the NBA Finals MVP.
The Heat – who survived a loss in the play-in tournament – became only the second No. 8 seed to make the finals.
OKLAHOMA SOFTBALL STAR, PAPILLION NATIVE BAHL ENTERS PORTAL:
Jordy Bahl, a Papillion native and top college softball pitcher, entered the transfer portal Monday.
Bahl has won two national championships with Oklahoma the past two seasons.
In 2023, the ace pitcher had a record of 22-1 with an ERA of just 1.09. She helped lead the Sooners to the title this season, while capturing the Women’s College World Series MVP award.
Bahl has not yet announced her transfer destination, although she stated she has “decided to return home” to Nebraska in her announcement via her personal Twitter page.
HUSKER LEGACY RECRUIT RECEIVES CAMP OFFER:
Quinn Clark had grown up a Huskers and Indianapolis Colts fan due to his late father, Ken Clark, wearing both uniforms. Quinn was in front of Nebraska’s football staff with a chance to show what he could do.
During the Matt Rhule Nebraska Football camps over the past weekend, Clark was pulled aside by the Big Red Head Football Coach to be offered a scholarship.
The Nebraska offer follows a couple from home-state FCS programs Montana and Montana State, which offered at the start of February.
