HUSKER FOOTBALL LANDS PAIR OF BELL WEST RECEIVERS:
Friday morning, the Huskers landed two more top targets with in-state recruits Isaiah McMorris and Dae’vonn Hall out of Bellevue (Neb.) West joining the fold.
They are commits 16 and 17 in a class (the eighth in the last week) that shoots up five spots to No. 17 in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings. McMorris and Hall join their quarterback Daniel Kaelin who is one of the jewels of this group.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Hall chose Nebraska over an offer list that included Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Penn State and Tennessee among others.
McMorris is the No. 71 wide receiver in the country according to 247Sports and the No. 4 prospect in the state of Nebraska in the 2024 class.
RUNZA SENIORS WIN OVER BRYANT; CONTINUE DAY THREE OF PREP TOURNEY:
The Kearney Runza Seniors earned their first win of the CWS Creighton Prep Tournament on Thursday night, taking down Bryant, Ark. 11-0.
Kearney won, scoring eleven runs on eight hits and two errors, while Bryant fell, scoring no runs with one hit and two errors.
The Runza Seniors took down Sheridan, Wyo. in their first game today 10-2. Kearney (13-11) won on ten runs from seven hits and no errors.
Kearney is currently in action with Fremont. Full game recaps can be found at KGFW.com.
HUSKER ATHLETICS MOVES TO UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT UMBRELLA:
University of Nebraska System President Ted Carter will now assume UNL’s seat on the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors, which is the board that oversees the policies, budget, operations and commissioner of the Big Ten Conference.
The move was part of a greater motion during Thursday’s Board of Regents meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
This move officially seats Carter as the new direct supervisor of athletic director Trev Alberts. Carter and Alberts worked together in the hiring of head football coach Matt Rhule last fall.
WEMBANYAMA SELECTED No. 1 IN NBA DRAFT:
Victor Wembanyama was the presumed No. 1 pick for months, the rare certainty in an NBA draft process that’s often a guessing game.
The San Antonio Spurs are confident he will be worth the wait.
Wembanyama comes with far more height and hype than most No. 1 picks. Listed at 7-foot-4, he dominated his French league in his final season there, leading all players in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.
The Charlotte Hornets took Alabama freshman forward Brandon Miller with the No. 2 pick. Scoot Henderson of the G League Ignite, whose bling-filled jacket stood in sharp contrast to Wembanyama’s solid green look, was the No. 3 pick by the Portland Trail Blazers.
ALL-TIME CLASSIC CWS GAME LANDS LSU IN FINALS WITH LATE BLAST:
Tommy White hit Camden Minacci’s first pitch into the left-field seats to set up an All-SEC best-of-three finals matchup with Florida starting Saturday night. It will be a rematch of the 2017 final that the Gators won for their first national title.
LSU (52-16) became the first team to hand Wake Forest (54-12) consecutive losses. The Tigers had won 5-2 on Wednesday to set up a second bracket final.
Dylan Crews singled to left leading off the bottom of the 11th against Michael Massey (3-1), prompting Deacons coach Tom Walter to call on his star closer. Minacci’s first pitch to LSU’s home run leader was a 90 mph slider, and White sent it out for his 23rd homer of the year.
