The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced on Monday that the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith will join the Association with full-time membership in the 2024-2025 academic year.

The university becomes the MIAA’s first full-time member in the state of Arkansas. Ouachita will also become an associate member of the MIAA for the sport of wrestling beginning with the 2023-24 season.

The university currently sponsors ten sports – volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, and men’s and women’s tennis.

FORMER HUSKER RUNNING BACK DAHRRAN DIEDRICK PASSES AT 44:

Dahrran Diedrick, who starred at Nebraska and won three Grey Cup titles in a 10-year Canadian Football League career, died Saturday after fighting cancer. He was 44.

The Montreal Alouettes, the team Diedrick helped win two Grey Cups, confirmed the death through his family.

Born in Jamaica and raised in Toronto, the 6-foot, 225-pound Diedrick was the first Canadian-raised scholarship recruit to play for Nebraska. In 2001, he started for the Huskers, rushing for a Big 12-leading 1,299 yards and 15 touchdowns.

GATORS CHOMP TIGERS; SET RECORD FOR CWS RUNS FORCING GAME 3:

Florida had been involved in more close games than any other team at the College World Series this year. That changed in a big way Sunday, when the Gators unleashed an offensive barrage of historic proportions.

Florida scored the most runs in a CWS game and came up one short of the record for largest margin of victory in a 24-4 rout of LSU that forced a deciding Game 3 of the finals.

The Gators (54-16) hit six home runs on a windy day at Charles Schwab Field and pounded LSU (53-17) pitching for a CWS record-tying 23 hits a day after Ty Floyd struck out 17 in the Tigers’ 4-3, 11-inning win in Game 1.

The series deciding Game Three is set for a 6 PM first pitch tonight from Charles Schwab Field.

KEEGAN BRADLEY WINS TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP:

Despite a shaky finish, Keegan Bradley broke the tournament record at the Travelers Championship on Sunday for his sixth tour victory.

Bradley closed with a 2-under 68 to finish three shots ahead of Zac Blair, who shot 62, and Brian Harman, who closed with a 64.

Bradley, who went 62-63-64 in the first three rounds, finished at 23-under 257 at TPC River Highlands, a shot better than Kenny Perry’s previous record from 2009.
