KEARNEY – One run made the difference on Tuesday night as the Kearney Runza Seniors dropped the opening contest of their homestand, falling 7-6 to Lincoln Southeast at Memorial Field. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.
Kearney (14-13) fell by scoring six runs on thirteen hits with two errors. Lincoln Southeast earned the victory with seven runs scored off of seven hits and no errors.
A ground out at the top of the first put Lincoln Southeast up early. LSE added another run in the third after a walk.
Kearney then took the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth thanks to singles by Quinn Foster and Nolan Smith. However, Lincoln Southeast then claimed the lead 4-3 in the top of the fifth after a sacrifice fly and a Kearney error scored two runs.
Brodie Arnold followed the bottom of the fifth with a double scoring to take the lead 5-4.
However, Lincoln Southeast claimed the lead they would not relinquish in the top of the sixth as a ground out scored one run, followed by a single that added two more.
Arnold fielded the loss for Kearney as the reliever went one and two thirds innings, allowing five runs – four of them earned – on six hits, striking out one and walking three. Jacob Hansen opened the game for Kearney allowing one hit and two runs over four innings.
Kearney collected thirteen hits in the contest. Smith and Arnold each drove in two runs for Kearney as Smith led the team with two walks. Kaleb Larson also was credited with two stolen bases.
