KEARNEY – A historic career in Kearney Baseball will begin its final chapter tonight at Memorial Field.

Head Coach for the Runza Seniors Brad Archer – currently in his thirteenth season as the Legion Senior head coach – is set to retire and step away from the Kearney Baseball scene at the conclusion of the summer season. Tonight his final home game at Memorial Field takes place at 7:30 PM facing Grand Island U-Save Pharmacy.

A celebration and ceremony is set between the POST 52 Juniors contest and the Runza Seniors game.

Archer has spent over four decades coaching Legion baseball in the community. He was the Kearney Juniors head coach for 26 years, an assistant with the Seniors program for four years and has coached the Seniors program for 12 years.

Along with leading the Legion program, he was the first coach of the Kearney High baseball program when it started in 2019. Archer announced he was stepping down from the Kearney High program earlier this spring.

Coach Archer has also been an assistant football coach for the Bearcats for 40 years. Archer helped the Kearney Legion program to five state championships and two state runner up finishes.

KGFW’s broadcast of the Runza Seniors and Grand Island U-Save Pharmacy teams will begin pregame coverage around 7:15 PM after a shortened Sports Nightly. Join Austin Jacobsen, Mitchell Brandt, and several guests throughout the broadcast.
