A Kearney Man was sentenced to five years in prison for firearm charges.

In federal court, Joshua Alan Casiano, 36, was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment for possession of stolen firearms, followed by a three-year supervised release after serving his sentence. Casiano pleaded guilty to the offense in March 2023. There is no parole in the federal system.

In April 2021 a Phelps County residence was burglarized where fourteen firearms were stolen.

A witness later came forward and notified police Casiano wanted to acquire firearms through burglary. Casiano learned that the Phelps County residence contained several firearms. The witness stated that Casiano left the night of the burglary and returned later with what looked like around a dozen firearms. Most of the firearms were later sold to two other people.

Once police learned of the sale, they obtained a search warrant to search the home of the buyers. Most of the stolen firearms were recovered during that search with the remainder recovered several days later.  To date, all the stolen firearms were recovered by law enforcement.
