NORTH PLATTE – The Kearney POST 52 Juniors were able to close down Grand Island Tom Dinsdale in the opening round of the A7 District Junior Legion Baseball tournament at Bill Wood Field on Friday night, earning a 9-1 victory.

POST 52 (24-15) won scoring nine runs on eights hits with one error while Grand Island fell scoring one run on two hits with three errors.

Kearney wasted no time getting ahead, scoring five of their nine runs in the first inning. Gunner Demlit singled scoring one run, Talyn Lewis singled scoring two runs, and an error added the fourth score. Draden Reidy’s sac-fly scored an additional run.

Another run by Kearney was added in the second by Tyson Cabela after a double.

Matthew Cone earned the win for Kearney, striking out one with no walks while surrendering two hits and one run over three innings. Reidy added two innings of relief allowing no runs while adding a strikeout.

Kearney continues their run in the A7 Junior tournament tomorrow, facing Grand Island Five Points Bank at 7 PM.
