GRAND ISLAND – Kearney Runza threw twelve total strikeouts and used four runs in the fifth inning to open their A7 District Tournament run with a win over Lexington Pinnacle Bank. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.
Kearney (18-17) earned the win with six runs scored on eight hits and one error while Lexington (12-16) fell, adding five runs on seven hits and two errors.
The Runza Seniors entered the A7 Tournament as the fourth seed overall, facing Lexington as the fifth seed.

The game began slow at Ryder Park, with both teams shut out in the first two innings until Kaleb Larson added a single in the second inning for the only hit in the opening moments.
However, Lexington got hot in the third as they scored four runs coming off of back-to-back 2 RBI doubles by Jackson Konrad and Daven Naylor. Kearney then responded with two runs scored in the bottom of the third, but continued to trail into the fifth inning.

The Runza Seniors bats began rolling in the fifth, capturing the lead 6-4 after Jase Blattner, Larsen, and Kegan Brand all got on base. Quinn Foster had a single adding a run, Garrison Burns hit a sac fly bringing in another run, and Brodie Arnold’s sac fly also added a score.
Rhett Mundorf earned the win for Kearney, working four innings and surrendering three hits and one run. Mundorf added seven strikeouts. Jacob Hansen had the start, allowing four hits and four runs over two and two third innings.
