RUNZA SENIORS MAKE IT THREE-IN-A-ROW WITH FOSTER’S NO-HITTER:
The Runza Seniors continued their strong showing in the A7 Senior District Tournament, taking down the North Platte FNBO Nationals 1-0 Monday afternoon.
Kearney (20-17) earned the win with one run on three hits and two errors, while North Platte FNBO fell with no runs on no hits with two errors.
The Runza Seniors’ Quinn Foster held a herculean effort, going six and two third innings and striking out twelve batters while walking four. The starter recorded twenty outs in the contest.
Kearney is the final team in the A7 District remaining without a loss. With the win, Kearney also punched their spot into a State Tournament bid. The Runza Seniors continue district action taking on Grand Island Home Federal tonight with first pitch at 7 PM.

HUSKERS WOMEN’S GOLF TAKAHASHI QUALIFIES FOR U.S. AMATEURS:
Miu Takahashi fired a one-over-par 72 to tie for third at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Qualifier in Dallas to claim a berth in the 123rd U.S. Women’s Amateur.
Takahashi, a junior-to-be on the Nebraska women’s golf team in 2023-24, advanced on the strength of the best front nine in Monday’s round with a 33 (-2), before closing with a 39 (+3) on the back of the 6,329-yard, par-71 layout at the Shady Valley Country Club.
Takahashi’s tie for third gave her one of the six qualifying spots out of Dallas.
Takahashi becomes the second Husker on Nebraska’s 2023-24 roster to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif., Aug. 7-13. NYG RUNNING BACK SAQUON BARKLEY FAILS TO REACH EXTENSION:
Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants failed to reach an agreement on a long-term contract extension by Monday’s deadline for franchised players, leaving the star running back with the option of playing for the tag-mandated $10.1 million salary or maybe taking the season off.
The Giants gave the franchise tag to the 26-year-old Barkley in March, giving the two sides four months to reach an agreement on a new deal by the July 17 deadline at 4 p.m. Talks went down to the wire and an agreement was not reached.
Barkley was not happy being tagged, especially after running for a career-best 1,312 yards and 10 touchdowns and sharing the team lead with 57 receptions last season in what was his second Pro Bowl season.
