On Friday, graduate and undergraduate degrees will be conferred for 210 summer graduates at University of Nebraska at Kearney summer commencement.
The commencement will be held at 10 a.m. Friday (Aug. 11) at UNK’s Health and Sports Center.
During the ceremony former dean of the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing, Juliann Sebastian, will be delivering the keynote address.
Sebastian served as UNMC College of Nursing dean from October 2011 to recently July 2023.
Additionally, third-generation UNK graduate Morgan Daubert will serve as the student speaker. Daubert received her bachelor’s degree in health and physical education in 2021. She will be earning a master’s degree in physical education with a pedagogy emphasis.
Doors to the Health and Sports Center will open at 8 a.m. Those attending the ceremony are encouraged to park in the west lots of the Health and Sports Center. Visitors with handicap permits can park east of building. Those transporting a handicapped person will have access to a drop-off on the east side of the complex but will need to move their vehicle to another lot.
Visitors with wheelchairs can sit in the corner seating sections on the main floor of the Health and Sports Center or use the elevator in the northeast corner of the building to sit in the designated section on the arena floor.
There will be three public entrances:
• The main entrance is located on the west side of the building off the pedestrian bridge
• Another entrance is on the east side of the building
• And a third is located at the north end of Cushing Coliseum
Guests should also expect a visual inspection of person, bags and clothing capable of concealing prohibited items. Small clutch purses and wallets are preferred at entry and will expedite inspection. Items that are prohibited are include: any type of weapon, including fake ones, alcohol/drugs/vapor pen/e-cigs, animals (expect service animals), laser pointers, and noisemakers(including air horns, cowbells or whistles).
