GRAND ISLAND — Nebraska State Fair and the We Care for Kids campaign are working together to add an additional layer of security for parents and children at the 2023 Nebraska State Fair. The new Safe Kids program is an extension of what the fair has done in the past with real time digital photo storage, all new wristbands for children of all ages at all gates, and expanded child security.

“State Fair has always had child safety as a high priority,” said Jaime Parr, Nebraska State Fair Executive Director. “This year we’ve expanded our real time photo opportunity with 4’x8’ backdrops at each major entrance to the grounds. Double Locked Security and Nebraska State Patrol continue their vigilant efforts to help us keep our kids having fun and staying safe.”

When parents enter the grounds at any gate, they will see a large Safe Kids area. Children can have their photo taken by parents in their current clothing, receive a wristband, and then sent on their way to have fun on the grounds. State Fair and on grounds security have a specific protocol to execute using these photos if a child is separated from parents.

“Organizations and communities across the state have joined We Care for Kids/Por todos los niños to call attention to the need for affordable, quality child care and early learning to support children’s healthy development and learning. We’re proud to partner with the Nebraska State Fair to connect more families to resources that help children, families, and communities thrive,” says Kara Ficke, We Care for Kids Campaign Manager.

With the theme of “Whatever Your Flavor,” this year’s Nebraska State Fair is from Aug. 25 through Sept. 4 in Grand Island.
