Baldwin City, KS – The Hastings College men’s soccer team took to the pitch in the Labor Day Classic hosted by Baker and came away with a 2-2 draw with Texas Wesleyan on Saturday evening.

When it looked as if the momentum shifted to the Broncos side following a goal, the Rams quickly countered to make the game even.

In the 18th minute, Hastings got its first goal of the season when Joe Vokins found Ayo Mackinde for the early 1-0 lead.

TWU came back in the 30th minute with a penalty kick goal from Mathis Guffroy to tie things 1-1. That score line held into the second half.

The teams went back-and-forth until the 79th minute when Guiherme Siquerira connected with Sandro Rubio to give HC the 2-1 advantage.

That didn’t last long as Texas Wesleyan’s Levin Brunner equalized in the 82nd minute as the game would end in a 2-2 draw.

The shots were very even as the Rams edged the Broncos 16-to-15 while both teams had nine shots on goal.

Jack Howard finished with a career high seven saves.

Hastings is now 0-2-1 on the year and will be back in action Monday Sept. 4 to finish up the Labor Day Classic against Baker with kickoff set for 11:00 am in Baldwin City, KS.
