KEARNEY — A Kearney man has been charged with several misdemeanors in relation to stalking Kearney Police Chief Bryan Waugh and his wife.

Marcus Ditchman, 58, faces two counts of stalking, a Class 1 misdemeanor; no operator’s license, Class 3 misdemeanor; operating a vehicle with rotating or flashing colored lights, Class 3 misdemeanor and no amber light in operation, Class 3 misdemeanor.

Ditchman appeared in Buffalo County Court on Sept. 8 and pleaded not guilty to each charge and a jury trial has been set for Jan. 8, 2024.

Judge Gerald Jorgensen ordered the court documents which detail the offenses sealed, but the charging documents indicate Ditchman is accused of stalking Chief Waugh and his wife on Sept. 6.

In addition, Ditchman is also charged with terroristic threats related to an incident at the Kearney Law Enforcement Center which took place on May 21, 2023.

Police say that Ditchman was located outside the building, yelling profanities at officers. Ditchman allegedly told officers to stay away, or he would let two dogs out of the vehicle.

Ditchman is free on $1,000 bail in this case, but after the stalking charges, prosecutors requested the judge to revoke his bond.

An arraignment in the terroristic threat case has been set for Oct. 2 at 9 a.m.
