HUSKER VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS NORTHWESTERN; AWAITS WISCONSIN:

The No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team swept Northwestern 25-15, 25-16, 25-21 on Wednesday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena. 

The Huskers hit a season-best .395 in the match while improving to 18-0 overall and 9-0 in Big Ten play. Merritt Beason had 13 kills and hit .323 with seven digs and three blocks, while Harper Murray had 10 kills and hit .412 and served a career-high four aces. Bekka Allick contributed nine kills on .800 hitting with a pair of blocks. Andi Jackson had seven kills and hit .667. 

Bergen Reilly had 38 set assists and six digs served a pair of aces. The Huskers had nine aces in the match. Nebraska had 45 kills to 26 for Northwestern and won the digs battle, 35-26. Lexi Rodriguez had nine digs to lead the Big Red. 

Nebraska will host No. 1 Wisconsin on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The match will be televised on Big Ten Network.

KGFW will join the match in progress at the conclusion of the Locker Room Show following Nebraska Football’s matchup with Northwestern Saturday.

 

KRAUSE INJURED; NO TIMETABLE FOR RETURN:

On the bad side of the win at Northwestern, outside hitter Lindsay Krause missed the match with an ankle injury.

The Huskers Radio Network announced during the pregame that Krause injured her ankle in practice Tuesday. There is no timetable on her return.

 

EIGHT-MAN FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS BEGIN:

The 8-Man Football playoffs begin across the state tonight, featuring teams in Classes D1 and D2. After the opening round of games tonight, each winner will be re-seeded into a sixteen team playoff beginning next week.

Area teams in action include: Elm Creek traveling to top-seeded Dundy County-Stratton, Axtell hosting Loomis, Ravenna hosting Neligh-Oakdale, and Overton facing Sandhills Thedford in Dunning.

HASTINGS COLLEGE WOMEN’S SOCCER RANKED NO. 23:

The Hastings College Women’s Soccer program bumped down one spot to No. 23 in this week’s NAIA Top 25 poll. 

The Broncos peaked as high as No. 17 in recent weeks, but dropped one spot after a draw on Sunday against Concordia. 

 

BRONCOS WOMEN’S SOCCER BLASTS St. MARY:

The Hastings College women’s soccer team had a lot to play for on Wednesday night when College of Saint Mary came to town since Concordia tied Briar Cliff earlier in the day. 

Hastings knew a win and they would be on top of the Great Plains Athletic Conference standings and the Lady Broncos got just that by defeating the Flames 3-1 out on Lloyd Wilson Field.

Hastings improves to 12-1-2 (7-1-2) and sits alone in first place in the GPAC as the Lady Broncos will be back in action Saturday Oct. 21 hitting the road to take on Northwestern.

SATTERFIELD – HAARBERG CONTINUES TO DEVELOP:

Nebraska Football offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield addressed the media Tuesday afternoon, and was asked about the continued improvement made by quarterback Heinrich Haarberg through the bye week…

The Huskers head coach Matt Rhule announced Monday that Haarberg was the definitive starter moving forward for the Big Red.

 

WHITE – ILLINOIS GOAL LINE STAND GAVE CONFIDENCE TO DEFENSE:

Nebraska Defensive Coordinator Tony White addressed the media for the first time since the Illinois game, and spoke about the confidence the goal line stand gave the Blackshirts on the first drive… 

Nebraska aims to keep that defensive confidence with another conference matchup at home hosting Northwestern on Saturday
