NORTH PLATTE, NE – The Betty’s Way Fire’s containment increased to 98% Thursday.
According to the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, fire managers made significant progress. Initial damage assessment shows that the fire has destroyed 4 primary residences and damaged countless outbuilding and agricultural infrastructures. No injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Operations Thursday included increasing containment in heavy pockets of timber that pose risks to the fire’s edge. In addition, focus was on the suppressing areas along the eastern edge of the fire identified by infrared flights.
The agency said Thursday that the fire is not completely out, as pockets of heat within the perimeter will continue to burn. Smoke is expected to be seen for many days.
