GRAND ISLAND — Two Republicans are competing to replace long-time Hall County Public Defender Jerry Piccolo.

Deputy Public Defender Vicky A. Kenny is running against Deputy County Attorney Ian Osborn.

Osborn, 35, said, “I feel I can do the best job. I am able to run teams of attorneys.”

Osborn pointed out that he has experience on both sides having worked as a deputy Hall County public defender and now working as a deputy Hall County attorney.

He said there is a large back load of cases in the public defender’s office. He would work to reduce that number.

Osborn earned his law degree from the University of Nebraska Law School in 2016.

He said he was never dismissed by a client as the client’s attorney when he worked as a deputy public defender.

Before coming to Grand Island, Osborn was in Minnesota, working in a private practice and working as a deputy public defender for one year.
In Grand Island, he worked as a deputy public defender for six months before switching to deputy county attorney, where he has worked for five months.

“I know that I can lead that office,” Osborn said.

Kenny did not return a voice message.
