COLUMBUS – The Kearney Legion baseball programs completed a full sweep of Columbus in Pawnee Park on Wednesday night, including a 2-0 shutout of the Cornerstone Seniors in the nightcap. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.

Kearney (9-8) earned the win with two runs scored on seven hits with an error while Columbus fell mustering five hits. The win earned a Kearney legion sweep of Columbus as the Pinnacle Bank Post 52 Juniors won 6-1 over the Post 84 Juniors.

Derrick Nonhof earned his second win on the year, working a complete game allowing only five hits with no runs on five strikeouts. Spencer Shotkoski for Columbus fielded the loss, dueling well with Nonhof as he pitched a complete game giving up seven hits, two earned runs, two walks, and two strikeouts.

Kearney broke the scoreless tie in the third inning, as Rydge Jackson’s bunt gave Kegan Brand an opportunity to scamper down third and evade a late tag by the Columbus catcher for his score.

The Misko Seniors added an insurance run after an RBI brought in by Bryce Anderson scored Rhett Mundorf in the sixth inning. Nonhof wrapped up the contest after allowing a hit to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning, sitting three straight batters.

The Kearney Seniors return home for a Memorial Field weekend, set to play three games Saturday and Sunday in their home invite. A schedule will be released later this week.

The Post 52 Juniors are off until a road trip to North Platte on Tuesday, June 25.
