ALASKA-ANCHORAGE SETS AIM AT LOPER VOLLEYBALL RECORD:

Per a report from the Alaska Sports Report, the University of Nebraska-Kearney may continue to see competition for their 2023 attendance record.

The University of Alaska-Anchorage has challenged its fans to “Pack the House” per a press release posted by the Alaska Sports Report detailing a ‘4K In the Door’ event.

The Loper Volleyball program reclaimed their NCAA Div. II regular-season attendance record on Sept. 6, 2023 in a sweep victory over in-state Peru State. 4,003 fans attended the contest at UNK’s Health & Sports Center.

Alaska-Anchorage broke the record in 2022 after drawing 3,888 fans in a sweep of Central Washington.

NEBRASKA ADDS NAIA PLAYER OF THE YEAR:

After speculation regarding the addition of another quarterback to the Nebraska football program, the 2023 NAIA player of the year announced his intention to join the Big Red.

Jalyn Gramstad, a former NAIA quarterback out of Northwestern College in Iowa, announced via social media Thursday his plans to join the Husker Football team.

The long-time Husker fan was a NAIA first-team All-American, GPAC Player of the Year, and first team All-GPAC performer in 2023 with the Red Raiders. This past season, Gramstad surpassed 3,000 passing yards, leading the NAIA in passing yards and completion percentage.

THURSDAY – NEBRASKA FOOTBALL MATT RHULE COMMENTS:

RHULE – RECRUITING FUTURE NFL PLAYERS:

Nebraska Football head coach Matt Rhule addressed the media for the first time this summer on Thursday morning, and touched on how the Huskers’ home camps can lead to finding talented new recruits…

Rhule’s 2025 recruiting class continues to grow by the week, adding in a significant piece last weekend in Malcolm Simpson, a four star defensive lineman.

RHULE – CONTINUE PORTAL RECRUITMENT:

Husker Football head coach Matt Rhule was asked Thursday morning his thoughts on how long the program peeks into the transfer portal for potential additions through the summer…

Nebraska’s 2024 recruiting cycle closes in late July, with players reporting to fall camp in early August.

RHULE – RECEIVERS APPEAR AS STRONGEST GROUP:

Matt Rhule, Nebraska Football head coach, spoke Thursday during his monthly presser and was asked who he thought the strongest position group was following spring practices…

The Huskers had plenty of developed local talent from last year’s team receive key experience their freshman season, including Lincoln native Malachi Coleman and Omaha Westside alum Jayln Lloyd.

RHULE – CONTINUE TO SEE DEVELOPMENT OVER TIME:

Nebraska Football head coach Matt Rhule expressed his comfortability with his coaching staff staying in tact through the off-season, and spoke on his confidence in his assistants ability to grow talent…

The 2023 youth movement has proven to give Nebraska an edge heading into the 2024 season, as the Big Red rank among the top of college football in experience returning.

RHULE – FOCUS IS ON FIRST STRETCH, NOT NEW TEAMS:

Nebraska Football is focused on the first games ahead late August and early September, as Matt Rhule stated Thursday morning his team is not peeking into the new Big Ten opponents.

Nebraska will travel to USC and host UCLA this season in back-to-back weeks, while Oregon and Washington have also joined the conference.

RHULE – LESSONS LEARNED IN FIRST YEAR IN BIG TEN:

Matt Rhule spoke on Thursday to the media and touched on what the biggest lessons he learned from his first year coaching in the Big Ten conference…

Rhule’s example was from the Iowa matchup, where Hawkeye coach Kirk Ferentz chose the wind in the second half, allowing the visitors to take a game-winning field goal at the end of the contest.

JJ REDICK ACCEPTS HEAD COACH OF LAKERS:

JJ Redick is being hired as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 39-year-old Redick is an extraordinary choice by the Lakers, who hired a 15-year veteran with absolutely no coaching experience to lead a franchise with 17 NBA titles, one of the biggest brand names in world sports — and LeBron James, the top scorer in league history.

Redick was a proficient outside shooter for six teams before his retirement in September 2021, when he moved into a career in broadcasting and podcasting. He joined ESPN’s lead commentary team earlier this year.

Less than two weeks after UConn coach Danny Hurley turned down the Lakers’ ardent advances, Redick accepted the job in a remarkable three-year journey from the court to the broadcast booth to the Lakers’ bench.

THUNDER TRADE GIDDEY TO BULLS FOR CARUSO:

The Oklahoma City Thunder traded Josh Giddey to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for guard Alex Caruso.

Trades cannot be officially announced until July 6.

Giddey was the No. 6 overall pick in 2021 and he made the All-Rookie second team. He is a member of Australia’s national team that will play at the Paris Olympics this summer.

The 30-year-old Caruso, who plays point guard and shooting guard, has established himself as a defensive presence in four years with the Los Angeles Lakers and then three years with the Bulls. He has career averages of 6.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists. He averaged a career-high 10.1 points this past season. He was on the all-defense first team in 2023 and the second team in 2024.
