COLLEGE WORLD SERIES ALL-SEC FINAL BEGINS:

The College World Series Final begins tonight after a two-day sabbatical, featuring two SEC schools for the second year in a row.

After LSU claimed the title in three games over Florida a year ago, Tennessee and Texas A&M battle in a three-game series for the title at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.

Game One of the College World Series finals begins tonight at 6:30 PM with television coverage on ESPN.

EDMONTON DOWNS PANTHERS TO FORCE GAME SEVEN:

Connor McDavid was held without a point, so Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers’ other top players stepped up to put them one win from the Stanley Cup.

Draisaitl made his first major impact in the final by setting up Warren Foegele’s early goal, Adam Henrique and Zach Hyman scored in the second period and the Oilers forced a Game 7 by beating the Florida Panthers 5-1 in Game 6 on Friday night.

They are the first team to tie the final after falling behind 3-0 in the series since the Detroit Red Wings in 1945. The Oilers have the chance Monday night in Sunrise to join the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs as the only NHL teams to come all the way back from that deficit to hoist the Stanley Cup.

KEARNEY MISKO SENIORS BEGIN HOME INVITE:

The Kearney Misko Seniors begin their home invite tournament today, featuring three other programs making the trip to Memorial Field.

Today’s matchups begin with Kearney welcoming Lincoln Northwest at noon to begin the action. The Misko Seniors then battle Scottsbluff in the nightcap at 7:30 PM.

Sunday Kearney wraps their action battling Grand Island U-Save at 3 PM.

For a full schedule, check out KGFW and Central Nebraska Today.

SEARS EARNS FOURTH ALL-AMERICAN HONOR:

Senior Brett Sears earned Second-Team All-American recognition from Baseball America, the publication announced Friday morning.

Sears’ second-team All-American honor is the highest by an NU starting pitcher since Aaron Marsden in 2003 after being named a second-team All-American by ABCA/Rawlings, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Perfect Game earlier this month.

Prior to the All-American accolades, the senior was a first-team all-region selection and named the District 6 Player of the Year.

A semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and National Pitcher of the Year, Sears was the Big Ten’s Pitcher of the Year and a First-Team All-Big Ten honoree.

FORMER SILVERHAWK FIVE-STAR KICKER JOINS HUSKERS:
Former Lincoln Southwest five-star kicker John Hohl announced his commitment to the Huskers Friday morning on X.

Hohl was committed to Coastal Carolina, but switched over to Nebraska. He is transferring from Iowa Western Community College.

Hohl is ranked as the top-overall transfer kicker in the country, making him the second five-star recruit for this fall. He joins the 2022 top recruit Tristan Alvano from Omaha Westside on the roster for the Big Red.
