Alda man arrested for flight to avoid arrest, child abuse, 11th driving under suspension

GRAND ISLAND — An Alda man was arrested after he attempted to flee a from officers during the evening of Friday, July 5.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, at 11:18 p.m., officers observed Don Casey Casares, 37, at the Super Saver location on 2nd St., exiting his 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis with no front plate and an old or fictitious back plate.

A records check revealed the plate used to belong to a 2012 Dodge Durango.

Officers attempted to contact Casares, who would take off in the vehicle at a high rate of speed onto 2nd St. with no lights on.

There were two males in the vehicle, one appeared to be Casares’ juvenile son. The other passenger would exit the front passenger side and would almost be left by Casares, according to the GIPD.

Casares drove at a high rate of speed over the 2nd St. overpass with no headlights or taillights. Officers noted there were three hotels, a food truck and a gas station with heavy pedestrian foot traffic in the area.

Later, Casares would be stopped and referred for flight to avoid arrest, driving under suspension – 11th charge, intentional child abuse, improper vehicle lighting, willful reckless driving and fictitious plates.
