GRAND ISLAND — A woman was cited child abuse after a four-year-old child was left unattended in a vehicle during the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 22.
According to the Grand Island Police Department, Maria Sanchez Lozano allegedly left her four-year-old child unattended while she went inside the store on North Broadwell around 3:29 p.m.
The windows were cracked open, and the vehicle was turned off.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the temperature at the Grand Island Central Nebraska Regional Airport at 3:53 p.m. was 82 degrees with 63 percent relative humidity.
After just 20 minutes on an 80-degree day, the Center for Disease Control says the inside of a car can hit 109 degrees.
Lozano was cited for child abuse.
