The KHS Varsity Bearcats split a double header with Lincoln East Tuesday evening (9/10) in Lincoln while the JV went 0-2 on the night.
In the varsity matchup, the Bearcat bats led them to victory with 18 hits in the game. Kelsey Hatcher went 4 for 4 while Greeley Cargill was 3 for 4. Alexa Jacobsen hit two home runs and was intentionally walked. Avery Lonshore led the team with 3 RBI and two home runs. In the circle, Lauren Schmeits pitched a complete game allowing 6 runs over 6 innings. This was good for a 14-6 Kearney victory.
In game 2, the Bearcats came up short in their comeback losing 11-9. Hatcher once again led the team with 3 hits. Jacobsen led the team with 2 RBI. Cargill got the start, allowing 6 runs over 3 innings. Ava Magnani came into the game in the 4th inning allowing 5 runs over the next 3 innings.
On Thursday, (9/12) the Bearcats traveled back to Lincoln for a single game against Lincoln Northstar. Despite scoring first, Kearney was on the short end of the game, losing 10-2. The Bearcats managed just 3 hits against the Navigators. Lauren Schmeits pitched the majority of the game, with Greeley Cargill providing relief.
Saturday, (9/14) Kearney traveled back to Fremont to make up the rainout from a couple weeks earlier for a single game. The Bearcats needed a rally in the top of the 7th inning for a comeback 8-4 victory. Kelsey Hatcher and Alexa Jacobsen each had 2 hits. Jacobsen had another home run which helped her lead the team with 3 RBI. Schmeits pitched a complete game for KHS, allowing 4 runs over 7 innings.
With the action last week, the Kearney varsity is now 9-6 on the season. They return to action at Patriot Park for double headers Tuesday (9/17) and Thursday (9/19) against Norfolk and Columbus before heading to Papillion for the Monarch Invite Friday and Saturday.

Going 2-1 on the Saturday JV tournament earned the KHS squad 2nd place.
After last week’s games, the JV have a record of 6-8. The KHS JV softball team plays Tuesday (9/17) and Thursday (9/19) at Patriot Park against Norfolk and Columbus before traveling to Lincoln for a tournament Saturday (9/21)
