KEARNEY — Kearney High School hosted their 2024 Homecoming pep rally during the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 17.

The boisterous event was kicked off with a hype video and performances from the KHS  Dance Catz and Cheerleaders.

The game that pitted the different classes and the teachers was an interesting one. It involved a rally, each member of the six person team would take turns leaping onto an air mattress in an effort to get it all the down the court to a waiting basketball.

Once the basketball was retrieved each member of the five teams had to make a lay up to win. The race down the court was as eventful as as the lay up attempts, which descended into a fair bit of chaos as one of the teachers took matters into their own hands and began blocking shots from the students.

As a result, it was decided that the students would shoot from the free throw line and had to make a basket. The catch was the student behind them also had a basketball and if they made their shot before the first did, they were out.

The free throw elimination drew as much yelling and cheering as the earlier race, with the junior class coming out on top.

The homecoming candidates were announced before the final class cheer competition.

The event was between all four grades, with the maximum volume of each class measured by the staff. The loudest class won the coveted spirit jug.

In the end, the Seniors were able to storm the court and claim the jug.
