Woman arrested for resisting arrest, public indecency, spitting in doctor’s face

GRAND ISLAND — A woman was arrested for resisting arrest, public indecency and spitting in the face of a doctor during the evening hours of Monday, Sept. 23.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, at 10:13 p.m., officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance was dispatched to the 1300 block of South Sylvan St. A woman was reported to be yelling.

The woman, later identified as Vanessa Hanson was contacted and was acting “very erratic,” according to the GIPD.

Hanon at first provided multiple different names to officers when questions. She would also act aggressive toward officers with clinched fists and attempted to pull away when she was to be detained.

Hanson also resisted being placed in the back of a patrol vehicle by bracing against the door, per the GIPD.

Officers attempted to deescalate, but Hanson did not comply and would intentionally pull her pants down, the GIPD noted. Neighbors in the area were looking out their windows during the altercation and witnessed Hanson’s intentional exposure.

Officers would eventually use a knee strike to Hanson’s left thigh in order to gain compliance. Hanson was later transported to St. Francis Medical Center for medical clearance.

While the doctor was assessing Hanson, she would spit in their face, the GIPD stated.

Hanson was eventually transported to the Hall County Department of Corrections, where she would continue to fight with jail staff.

Hanson would be arrested for obstruction, resisting arrest, public indecency and third degree assault on a health care professional.
