HASTINGS — The Hastings City Council voted to terminate Shawn Metcalf as city administrator during their meeting on Monday, Sept. 23.

Metcalf had been placed on administrative leave as of Sept. 6, according to a statement by the City of Hastings. No other details were provided, as this was a personnel matter.

According to a Sept. 13 statement from the City of Forest Lake, Minn., Metcalf was named as one of the three finalists in their search for a new city administrator.

Metcalf has been with the City of Hastings since 2022, having served as the city manager of Rawlins, Wyo. previously.

“We obviously regret the fact that we are here today…this decision is not made lightly,” council member Matt Fong said.

The city council voted 6-1 to terminate Metcalf. Council member Marc Rowan had the lone dissenting vote.

The council then voted unanimously to name Mark Funkey as the interim city administrator. Mayor Corey Stutte thanked Funkey for stepping into the role, especially during the budget season.

Stutte said that Funkey will serve in the role until the end of his term as mayor and that the next mayor and council can decide on a permanent replacement.
