HASTINGS — JIL Asphalt Paving Co. of Grand Island has a $144,024 contract with the City of Hastings to resurface four areas at the Hastings Municipal Airport.

JIL Asphalt is mobilizing equipment to the airport on Friday, Oct. 4 and planning to start the work on Monday, Oct. 7. Work should take approximately one week to complete.

The work is paid for using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

The bid from JIL Asphalt was the lowest among the three contractors that submitted bids for the project.

The 2-inch thick asphalt resurfacing project will be using type “SLX” asphaltic concrete mix as designed by the Nebraska Department of Transportation for high volume traffic roadways.

The four areas to receive asphalt resurfacing include; the terminal building parking lot; the Fixed Base Operator building parking lot; the main gate area on 12th Street and the area around the snow removal equipment building, which is east of the terminal drive entrance and inside the fence.

Most of the resurfacing work is on off-street parking areas.

Twelfth Street will remain open during the project. There will be some impact to motorists using 12th Street with construction traffic and some delays from flaggers while resurfacing the driveway approaches to 12th Street.

Because the airport terminal building is used for many public meetings, the contractor is arranging the work of resurfacing the four parking areas around scheduled activities there.
