Kearney woman charged with first degree assault after shooting

KEARNEY — A Kearney woman has been charged with first degree assault after a shooting left a man with life threatening injuries during the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 20.

Karen Geisler, 56, has been charged with first degree assault, a Class 2 felony and possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony, a Class 3 felony.

Geisler was arraigned in Buffalo County Court on Monday, Oct. 21 and her bail was set at 10 percent of $500,000. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 14 at 11 a.m.

The affidavit detailing the support for continued detention has been sealed by the state.

According to a press release from the Kearney Police Department, on Oct. 20, at 2:10 p.m., officers responded to the report of a shooting at 1815 7th Ave.

“Officers immediately located the suspect outside and she was taken into custody. At the same time, the victim was located inside and Officers provided emergency first aid until the scene was safe for the paramedics to enter the residence,” per the KPD.

“The victim was identified as a 62-year-old male from Kearney who also lives at that residence. The victim was transported to CHI Good Samaritan Hospital with life threatening injuries,” per KPD.

Geisler was then booked into the Buffalo County Jail.
