HASTINGS — Cooler temperatures will settle across the local area today and high temperatures will only reach the 50s through the next weekend.

According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, today will start mostly dry with a few showers and non-severe thunderstorms expected to fill in from the south later today.

Severe weather is not expected, and rainfall totals will vary from west, under 0.10 inches to the east, over 0.50 inches.

By Tuesday, another upper-level low is expected to organize at the base of a longwave trough that will be over the desert Southwest during mid-week.

“This should result in dry weather and seasonably cool temperatures for both Tuesday and Wednesday, with some moisture then working its way back into the forecast later in the week. Still notable differences in the track of this next closed upper low as it exits the southwest later in the week, but this does appear to be a more potent system that will lift northeast across Nebraska late Friday or Saturday,” the NWS Hastings states.

Drier conditions are expected to for much of Wednesday into the weekend ahead of the next system.

Behind the stronger system, the weak upper-level ridging will make a return and bring drier weather and slightly warmer temperatures on Sunday, with upper-50s expected.
