LINCOLN — Senior linebacker John Bullock was named to the Burlsworth Trophy watch list this week.

The Burlsworth Trophy is given to the most outstanding football player in American who began his career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field.

The senior linebacker from Omaha has started all nine games this season, totaling 49 tackles, 6.0 TFL, 3.0 sacks and an interception which he returned for a touchdown. He is second on the team in TFLs and third in both total tackles and pass breakups (three) in his second season as a starter.

He is seven tackles away from matching his career tackle total for the first five seasons of his career. He has helped the Blackshirts rank in the top 20 nationally in both total defense (17th) and rushing defense (13th) in 2024.

The Burlsworth Trophy Award Show will honor the three finalists and announce the 2024 winner on December 9. Bullock was one of 78 players on the watch list.
