KEARNEY — A jury trial date has been set for a Kearney woman who has been charged with motor vehicle homicide following a fatal accident near Amherst in August 2024.
Haley Kociemba, 34, has been charged with motor vehicle homicide, a Class 1 misdemeanor.
Kociemba submitted a written plea of not guilty to the charge on Oct. 28.
A pre-trial hearing date has been set for Dec. 19 at 1:30 p.m. and a jury trial date has been set for Feb. 3, 2025, at 9 a.m.
According to court documents, on Aug. 16, a vehicle driven by Michelle Arehart, 49, of Mason City, was eastbound on Highway 30, near the intersection with Daykin Road.
Kociemba was traveling westbound when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided with Arehart’s vehicle.
Arehart was transported to the CHI Health Good Samaritan hospital with life-threatening injuries, but later died of her injuries on Aug. 20, 2024.
