KEARNEY — After nearly two decades as the principal of Meadowlark Elementary and a 34-year career in education, Mark Stute has announced his retirement.
Known for his unwavering dedication to students, staff, and families, Stute has served as an inspiring leader, positively impacting countless lives within the Kearney Public Schools, Kearney community, and beyond.
Stute’s career journey reflects a deep commitment to education and leadership. He began as a business teacher and volleyball coach at Ravenna High School and then served as an elementary principal at Sidney Public Schools. Since 2006, he has held the role of principal at Meadowlark Elementary, where his guidance has set a standard for excellence, compassion, and community. His dedication was recognized when he was named the Region IV Distinguished Principal of the Year for 2022-2023.

Mark Stute’s retirement marks the end of an era for Meadowlark Elementary as only the second Principal for Meadowlark Elementary. As he steps into this new chapter, he looks forward to spending time with his wife, Mary, and their family, including daughter Morgan Burns (husband Carter) and grandchildren Charleigh and Grayson, along with his son Matthew Stute.
Kearney Public Schools will begin the search for a new principal to uphold Stute’s legacy at Meadowlark Elementary.
