GRAND ISLAND – Hall County District Judge Andrew Butler ruled Jan. 17 that Kelli Lepler of Grand Island is not competent to stand trial.

Lepler, 47, owned a Grand Island cemetery headstone business, Monument Advisors, and is accused of receiving $258,404 from 43 customers. The headstones were never installed.

A psychiatrist from the Lincoln Regional Center examined Lepler at the Hall County Jail.

“There is reasonable probability that the defendant’s competency can be restored after treatment at the Lincoln Regional Center,” Butler wrote in a Jan. 17 ruling. Butler ordered that Lepler be transported as soon as possible to the Lincoln Regional Center to begin treatment.

A review hearing for Lepler will be at 2:30 p.m. April 21 in Hall County District Court.

Lepler’s jury trial was scheduled to begin Jan. 23.

She is charged in Hall County District Court with 46 counts of theft by deception, of which 38 charges are felonies and eight charges are misdemeanors.

The purchases were made between Jan. 8, 2020, and Feb. 9, 2023.
